The day got off to a great start: an influx of new customers, inspiration to make changes to my website, ideas for reaching more people with my work, book sales, a record number of people visiting my website, plenty of Instagram attention. I felt great. To top it off I had a wonderful afternoon at the marina listening to a musician play while I people watched. Life felt good.
The next day not so much: no new customers when I woke, no inspiration for changes, no outward signs of success at all. Suddenly I didn't feel so good about my day. Worse still I didn't feel good about myself.
How easy it is to judge ourselves based on external circumstances, to feel good about ourselves when good things happen but to feel bad about ourselves when we don't get external rewards?
It got me thinking about my very conditional love for myself. If I can't love & feel good about myself no matter the external circumstances, then I'm not really loving myself at all.
So I started to say marriage vows to myself
"I love you, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness & in health"
Maybe, just maybe you can't have the success, the money, the good times or the health that you really want because you are being given the conditions required to teach you to love yourself in the times when self-love doesn't come so easy.
