I was about 4 days into Oprah & Deepak's 21 day Desire & Destiny program

& in one of the meditations my mind kept wandering, to the same place, to me putting honey in my chai. I kept bringing myself back to the mantra, but my mind would wander off to the cup of chai & my putting honey in it again until I listened to my mind & said (internally) "OK, I got the message, quit putting honey in my chai!"
When I got out of the meditation I decided to investigate this sweet message from my subconscious!
I sign up for books & programs & give money to whomever can give me very fast answers. I like to pay people to do what they love & are passionate about to help me when it's not something that I'm not passionate about.
Forget snail mail programs, I'm all over instant downloads!
So I bought these 2 books & started to learn

This is what I learned:
I had been getting up in the morning & having a sugar hit in the form of honey in my chai.
I would have my superfood green smoothie which had a sugar hit in it - a very ripe banana.
Mid morning I would feel like a sugar hit & this feeling was disguised as feeling like another cup of chai!
After my very healthy lunch I would crave a sugar hit & would have a square of dark chocolate.
Mid afternoon I would crave a sugar hit & would have another (or 3) squares of dark chocolate.
In the evening I would crave a sugar hit & this would be disguised as a craving for flavoured chips (yes, the flavoured ones are covered in sugar! who knew? even salt & cracked pepper flavoured!)
I was a total sugar junkie on the sugar roller coaster vaguely disguised as a healthy diet person =O
If you investigate (like me) you'll find that very little fruit originates from the same places. In other words, 2 types of fruit are generally found once a year in 1 location anywhere in the world.
This means that originally, as nature would have it, twice a year we would gorge ourselves on the fruit that was abundant at the time. Hence our bodies are designed to eat as much fruit as we like without getting full so that we don't waste the abundant harvest when it comes & our wonderful bodies store it all as an instant energy source called FAT.
Then we decided to ship fruit around the world so that we ALWAYS have access to it. Then we processed it & put it into almost EVERYTHING we eat!
Now we have a huge obesity problem. We were never supposed to eat so much sugar.
(disclaimer: I do not eat junk food nor processed food & haven't for many years, the only sugar I ate was 2 spoons of honey a day + a banana + about 6 squares of dark chocolate so I went cold turkey rather than follow Sarah's 8 week program above)
Day 1: Morning smoothie, sans banana, just with vanilla in. Tastes less sweet, but still quite sweet. No fructose in it. Still tasty.
No cravings for sugar. My chai tastes lovely - almond milk is really quite sweet enough already (no fructose in it)
I walked past the fridge, I thought about having a piece of chocolate, I felt nothing, it was just a thought & not a feeling. I didn't get a piece of chocolate.
I felt clearer & able to express myself with no anxiety.
Day 2: Feeling hungry today. Sarah warns about this, so I bought some non-sugary snacks ready. I had high protein snacks (cashew nuts, rolled up chicken with salad in it, plain salted chips) I got through just fine.
I feel much better, clearer, a low level anxiety constant hum that had always been there was gone. It was the sugar! Who knew? Me now that's who.
Day 3: Nothing more to report. I prefer tasting my chai now instead of having the flavour sweetened out of it. No more cravings or extra hunger pangs. I feel clear & like a constant hum of anxiety has been lifted. I feel great.
It was that easy for me. But as I said, I have hardly eaten processed foods or junk food for around 10 years now)
I highly recommend giving it a go if it strikes a chord with you.
